About Me

Welcome! My name is Kristal Serna, and I’m a Michigan-based watercolor painter who's inspired by nature.

I grew up in California’s Napa Valley & spent much of my childhood outdoors. I loved camping in Yosemite, swimming in the Pacific Ocean, and hiking through the Sierra Nevada mountains.

I’ve been creating art since I was 6 years old and drew a really bad picture of an elephant (I made its trunk come out of the top of its head because I couldn’t remember where it was supposed to go!) The images I paint now are inspired by my childhood in California as well as time spent outdoors in Michigan.

Watercolor is my medium of choice because of its ability to create luscious, transparent colors. Much like nature itself, it's a medium that can't be totally controlled or manipulated.

As far as education, I earned my bachelor of fine arts degree from Eastern Michigan University. I also have a B.A. in Native American Studies from UC Davis and a J.D. from University of Michigan Law School.

If these words resonate with you, then I invite you to join my email community.
