Welcome! My name is Kristal Serna, and I’m a Michigan-based watercolor painter who's inspired by nature. I especially love flowers but wasn't born with a green thumb. So instead of growing gardens, I create them through my art.
I love big, bold color, and watercolor is my medium of choice because of its ability to create luscious, transparent hues. It’s a temperamental medium that often resists being controlled, much like Mother Nature herself. As a result, I think watercolor is an ideal medium for portraying nature.
I grew up in California’s Napa Valley, but for the past decade I've lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Prior to becoming a professional artist, I worked as a lawyer and in other executive positions in the business world. My formal education includes a BA in Native American studies from UC Davis, a law degree from University of Michigan, and a BA in fine arts from Eastern Michigan University.
