New Painting: Pair of Pears - Kristal Serna, Fine Artist

New Painting: Pair of Pears

I've completed my first fall painting of 2021. Besides being a different subject than my usual flowers, it's unique in that I used a limited palette. My usual paint palette has 16 colors. Of course, I don't use all of them in every piece, but I do use many.

This time I used only 3 colors in what's sometimes called a modified Velázquez palette because it similar to the limited palette Spanish painter Diego Velásquez often used.

The only colors in this painting are ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, and quinacridone gold. Using a limited palette like this results in a beautifully cohesive color harmony that's perfect for fall.

The painting itself is 11x14" and with the frame it measures 19x23". The original painting is available, as well as prints and greeting cards, here
